The City of Cincinnati Department of Transportation and Engineering strives to provide citizens with excellent services. Quality services such as maintenance of streets and street improvements of sidewalks, roads, walls and bridges is our goal. The continued integrity of these public investments is our charge and is why the Permit and License Center is now serving you.

The Department of Transportation and Engineering Permit and License Center is designed to allow citizens to process right-of-way permit requests and initiate information referrals in one central location.

In order to provide citizens with prompt and professional service, we are continuing to advance our abilities through the integration of data and computer technology. Our knowledgeable and friendly staff is always ready to assist you.

Our Convenient Location

The Permit and License Center is conveniently located in Room 425, City Hall, 801 Plum Street. The Center is open Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The Many Services Available

The Permit and License Center staff is ready to assist you in processing Transportation and Engineering permit requests. The following is a list of some of the permitting services we provide:

Driveway Permit*
Permanent and temporary

Dumpster Usage Permit
For temporary refuse containers on streets

Excess Load Moving Permit*
To move oversized, overweight and other difficult loads in or through the City of Cincinnati

Sidewalk/Driveway Repair Permit
Sidewalk safety program repairs

Street Blocking Permit*
To temporarily close sidewalks and roadways within public streets for any purpose

Street Contractors License*
To provide street damage security for work in or on city streets

Street Furniture/Facility Permit*
Outdoor pay telephones, vending machines, benches, sign boards and others

Street Opening Permit*

To construct and maintain streets, utilities and other infrastructure facilities within public streets

Subdivision Permits*
New residential, commercial and industrial Utility Pole Installation/Attachment Permit for utility company use

Wall Opening Permit*
To cut or modify an existing public wall

* Requires plans or other documents to be submitted with the application
