Cincinnati Recreation Commission Seniors:
Not over the Hill. At the Top and enjoying the view.
Cincinnati Recreation Commission Seniors are active and aware. They want to play, relax, learn and enjoy. They're at the top of their life enjoying their view. Recreational, cultural, educational, and leisure activities designed for an active lifestyle are offered at over 16 senior centers located throughout the Cincinnati area. Our leisure and cultural activities mean relaxing and enjoying.
Whether its basketball, volleyball, swimming, bowling, karate, or Tai Chi, our young-at-heart seniors go for the gusto. We also help seniors attain a new level of physical fitness and health. Many of the senior centers features weight rooms, aerobics, health walking, and yoga classes.
The Cincinnati Recreation Commission has been serving the seniors of Cincinnati and the surrounding areas since 1967. The Oakley Senior Center is the oldest CRC senior center which celebrated their 34th anniversary in 2002. Many of the centers are housed in local neighborhood community centers and CMHA buildings. All adults 50 and older are welcome to attend any senior center. A membership fee is required for recreational activities and very nominal fees for classes. Nine of the present senior centers are nutrition sites. Please call the Senior Division at 352-4012 or e-mail lynn.melzer@cincinnati-oh.gov concerning senior programs.

East Side Senior Christmas Party
The CRC East Side Seniors Holiday Luncheon was held on December 13, 2006 at Madisonville Recreation Center. Seniors from Bush, Evanston, Kennedy Heights, Leonard Shore, Madisonville and Oakley gathered together to share the Holiday Spirit of Friendship. Madisonville Recreation Center was decorated with all the trimmings. The goal of the day was to meet new friends since each table had representation from each center. They sang, shared stories and enjoyed a wonderful supper lunch. The group was entertained with the fantastic voices of the Madisonville Gospel Singers. And to everyone’s delight Santa arrived just in time to pick numbers for the door prizes and of course a few had to sit on Santa’s lap. A good time was had by all and next year will be bigger and better!

Senior Citizen Hall of Fame
Created in 1968, The Senior Citizen Hall of Fame was inaugurated by the Senior Citizens' Advisory Council of the Cincinnati Recreation Commission in cooperation with the City of Cincinnati and its Mayor. Over 1500 seniors have been inducted into the Hall of Fame at the annual banquet hosting over 800 attendees, including city officials and other dignitaries. The Hall of Fame helps our community recognize the contributions and achievements of its senior citizens. Awards are presented to persons 60 and over. The nominees have been selected by their fellow members on the basis of significant and continuing contributions to the social and cultural life of the Cincinnati community.
